Senators Clip Giants, 4-3
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Washington Senators eventually prevailed at Candlestick Park.
The Senators grabbed a win, 4-3, at Candlestick Park, overcoming a fine effort from San Francisco pitcher Butch Henry. Henry went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Frank Pastore was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 9 save opportunities.
The Senators got an important contribution from left fielder Brett Butler, who in the top of the seventh knocked a 0-2 slider into center for a 2-run single. It was his 136th hit of the season and put the Senators ahead, 4-3.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Butler said.
The Senators now own a record of 60-87.
