Atlanta starter Sterling Hitchcock put a stranglehold on the Texas offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Braves to a 6-1 win. Today's win puts Atlanta at 69-80, while Texas falls to 39-109.

Atlanta designated hitter Darryl Strawberry made his contribution to the Braves cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. For the day, Strawberry was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Strawberry told the Atlanta Herald. "It's as simple as that."
