Cincinnati Reds starter Mike Mussina pitched a strong game against the New York Yankees at Riverfront Stadium, leading the Reds to a 8-2 win. The Reds bumped their record to 79-74 with this latest triumph.

Eric Davis put Cincinnati in front, 4-0, when he hit a 3-run home run off Jim Abbott in the bottom of the first. It was his 34th home run of the season.

"It was a solid team effort," said Davis after the game.
