Twins Get Road Win, 7-5

The Minnesota Twins stopped the Texas Rangers, 7-5, behind an impressive performance from Larry Walker. The slugging right fielder made life miserable for Texas pitching. He went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Pat Combs was the winning pitcher. Over 8.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The 5th-place Twins improved to 65-88.
There was more than one reason the Twins beat the Rangers, but Walker's big at-bat in the top of the fifth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 5-2 lead when he hit a 3-run home run.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Walker, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
