Stairs Slugs Reds to 7-3 Win
|
The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds cranked it up at Riverfront Stadium.
The Cincinnati Reds bested the New York Yankees by a score of 7-3, with designated hitter Matt Stairs getting the main credit. On the day, Stairs went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Reds. Kevin Gross earned the win to go to 5-5. He allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
With Cincinnati leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Stairs hit a fastball from Mark Langston for a grand slam home run. It was his 28th home run of the season and put the Reds ahead, 7-0.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Stairs.
The Reds saw their win-loss record go to 80-74. At the same time, the Yankees fell to 65-90.
