Twins Need Extra Frames to Get Past Rangers
|
The Twins had to overcome a fine performance from Texas pitcher Pete J. Smith to grab a 3-1 win at Arlington Stadium. Smith allowed no earned runs over 7 innings. Rob Dibble notched his 24th save in 33 chances. The Twins go to 66-88, putting them 5th in the Federal League Central Division.
Minnesota used the timely hitting of Damaso Garcia to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Twins on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I like how we battled to the end," said Garcia.
