Extra-Inning Win by Cardinals over Cubs
|
It was pandemonium at Busch Stadium after an exciting walk-off win.
Chicago got a terrific performance from pitcher Eric King, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis won the Busch Stadium contest, 6-5. King was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. St. Louis is 92-63 and Chicago, with the loss, 90-65.
Late-game drama came in the bottom of the 12th inning. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the batter, Ivan Calderon, hit a walk-off run-scoring single. It helped St. Louis seize the win.
"What an ending!" said a jubilant Calderon.
