Gomez goes 3-for-4 as Orioles Squeeze Past Montreal
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Montreal Expos, 10-9. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Leo Gomez, who went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Baltimore reliever Steve Howe picked up the win to move to 11-3. Mike Jeffcoat suffered the loss. Gomez had a game-changing single in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 slider from Mike Jeffcoat, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Orioles a 10-9 lead. It was the 113rd hit of the year for Gomez.
