Pirates Turn Back Cincinnati, 7-5
|
Pittsburgh first baseman Jeff King played a vital role in his team's 7-5 triumph over Cincinnati. He went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh reliever Bill Scherrer was the winner. His record is now 2-3. The losing pitcher was Juan Nieves. Bryan Harvey got the save, his 27th in 33 chances.
King contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the sixth. With his team trailing 5-2, King took a changeup from Juan Nieves and stroked the home run to left. His 24th home run of the season allowed the Pirates to leap in front, 6-5.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," King told the Pittsburgh Chronicle.
Pittsburgh has now won 3 straight, while the Reds have lost 3 in a row.
