Cardinals Bang Out 8-1 Win Versus Texas
|
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers, 8-1, at Arlington Stadium today. Leading the charge for St. Louis was designated hitter Geronimo Berroa. He went 3-3 with a triple, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Bill C. Swift, the winner, improved to 12-10. He held the Rangers to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 5. The win boosts the Cardinals to 93-64. The loss puts the Rangers at 41-116.
It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for John Jaha, the 26-year old first baseman . Jaha contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put St. Louis up, 2-0.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said Texas skipper Sean Norman. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
