Mattingly Delivers Walk-Off Win for Yankees
|
The Atlanta Braves got a superb performance from third baseman Kevin Mitchell, but the New York Yankees still won the game, 7-4. Mitchell was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Steve Ontiveros picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 7-3. Roberto Hernandez was tagged with the loss. With the win, New York has a record of 67-91. Atlanta falls to 73-85.
One of the biggest contributors for New York was first baseman Don Mattingly. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mattingly got a 3-1 fastball and hit a walk-off 3-run home run. That put the Yankees on top, 7-4.
"This place was rockin'," Mattingly said.
