Pittsburgh starter David Nied pitched effectively against the Orlando Sun Rays at Three Rivers Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 6-3 win. The 5th-place Pirates now have a 6-game winning streak.

The Pirates got a big at-bat from center fielder Lance Blankenship. For the game, Blankenship was 1-3 with a walk. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 128th hit of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead.
