Royals Turn Back St. Louis, 4-2
|
The Kansas City Royals picked up a win at Royals Stadium, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-2. On the mound for Kansas City was left-hander Rheal Cormier, who played a pivotal role in the win. Kansas City is now 100-60, 5 games up in the Federal League Central Division.
The Royals got a big at-bat from catcher Jerry Willard. For the game, Willard was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Kansas City a 4-1 lead.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Willard told the Kansas City Daily News. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
