Cubs Subdue Minnesota, 6-4
|
The Chicago Cubs got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Scott Chiamparino, but it was good enough for the club to take a 6-4 decision over the Minnesota Twins. Chiamparino, the winner, moves to 11-7. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. Doug Jones was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 46 of 56 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Eric Karros, the 24-year old designated hitter . Karros contributed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Chicago up, 3-0.
Chiamparino said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The Cubs go to 95-67, putting them third in the Federal League Central Division.
