Red Sox Sneak Past Pirates, 3-2
|
The Boston Red Sox eked out a 3-2 win versus the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Todd Stottlemyre, who captured player of the game honors. Boston reliever John Wetteland picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Craig Eaton took the loss. The second-place Red Sox have won 7 straight.
Matt Williams had a nice at-bat for the Red Sox with no one out in the top of the 11th. With the bases empty, the third baseman struck out, which would prove important in the Boston win.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Williams said.
