Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Reds

Cincinnati beat New York at Riverfront Stadium, escaping with a 8-7 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter Matt Stairs, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2-7 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The Yankees, at 15-22, have lost 4 straight games.

In the bottom of the 16th inning, Stairs went to the plate for the Reds. With the clubs tied 7-7, he saw a first pitch fastball from Lee Guetterman and hit a walk-off run-scoring single to put the Reds on top, 8-7.

"This place was rocking at the end," Stairs said.
