Twins Rally to Eke Out Win
|
A 3-RBI performance from Koji Akiyama, who is tied for 9th in the FL in extra base hits with 17, helped the Minnesota Twins beat the Texas Rangers, 7-6. Minnesota reliever Alejandro Pena picked up the win to move to 1-3. Jose Mesa suffered the loss. Texas's current losing streak is now 15 games.
Damaso Garcia, who finished 3rd in the FL in stolen bases with 69 in 1989, helped out the Minnesota cause in the top of the 12th inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the second baseman was 2 for 7 with 2 singles.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Garcia, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
