Pirates Walk Off with Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees at Three Rivers Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Bob Scanlan, who captured player of the game honors. Pittsburgh reliever Bryan Harvey was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Steve Ontiveros took the loss. New York's current losing streak is now 6 games.
Darren Daulton helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the 14th inning with a solo home run. For the game, the catcher was 2-2 with a home run.
"It was a test of wills," said Stephen Ginter, the Pittsburgh skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
