Sun Rays Stymie Cincinnati, Take 3-1 Win
|
Orlando starter Kevin Appier pitched effectively against the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 3-1 win. Rod Beck, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save. Orlando is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Ron Jones had a big run-scoring single for the Sun Rays in the top of the sixth inning. With Orlando leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from Jose Rijo and stroked the single to center. It was his 10th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sun Rays ahead, 2-0.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Jones told the Orlando News.
