The Minnesota Twins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-2, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium, with Minnesota first baseman Frank Thomas named player of the game. Pedro Astacio, the winner, improved to 1-4. He held the Cardinals to 2 earned runs on 3 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Even with the win, the Twins have a dismal 13-26 record.
Thomas had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, when he hit a grand slam. The Twins went on to win.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Thomas told reporters after the game.
