Twins Turn Back St. Louis, 3-1
|
In a well-pitched game between the Minnesota Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals, pitcher Ben Rivera was fantastic. The Minnesota right-hander was named the player of the game in Minnesota's 3-1 win. Rivera got the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 2 hits and walked 5 over 6 innings. Rivera allowed 1 earned run. Rob Dibble earned the save, his 5th, for the Twins.
Larry Walker put Minnesota in front, 2-1, when he took Joe Johnson downtown. His 2-run home run came with two out in the top of the sixth. It was his 12th home run of the season.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach.
Even with the win, the Twins have a dismal 14-26 record.
