Rangers Continue Skid Thanks to Williams, Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox stopped the Texas Rangers, 12-2, behind an impressive performance from Matt Williams. The two-time All-Star made life miserable for Texas pitching. He was 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Zane Smith got the win, improving to 5-3. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 10 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The last-place Rangers have dropped 5 straight games.

Rafael Palmeiro had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the top of the first inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from Pete J. Smith and stroked the home run to center. It was his 12th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
