Close Win Moves Athletics to 22-20
|
The Oakland Athletics racked up a win at Shea Stadium, bumping off the New York Mets, 4-3. Greg Mathews, who started for Oakland, pitched effectively for his team. Mathews went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 5-4. The Athletics bumped their record to 22-20 with this latest triumph.
John Kruk dealt the Mets a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Oakland leading 3-2, Kruk, who is tied for 9th in the UL in runs scored with 29, hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Kruk said after the game.
