Pirates Rally For Late Win Over Cubs
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Chicago Cubs, 6-5, at Three Rivers Stadium. The Pirates were led by Bobby Bonilla, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The Pirates, now 23-23, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Bonilla went to the plate for the Pirates. With the clubs tied 5-5, he saw a 0-1 fastball from Jim Corsi and hit a sacrifice fly to put the Pirates on top, 6-5.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Bonilla, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
