Avery Too Tough, Blanks San Diego
|
Today was Steve Avery's turn in the rotation for the Baltimore Orioles and he made the most of it, shutting out the San Diego Padres on 1 hit.
The 22-year-old left-hander led the Orioles to an easy 6-0 victory, allowing no walks and tallying 10 strikeouts.
"I hope we miss him next time," San Diego manager Chris Levin said. "Avery certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
In 10 starts this year Avery has posted 6 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 74.2 innings, allowed 52 hits, struck out 58 and has a 3.38 ERA.
