Twins Win at Boston, 7-4
|
The Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox, 7-4, at Fenway Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Todd Zeile, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Minnesota now sits at 20-33, while Boston falls to 32-21.
One important at-bat came with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning. Facing Boston hurler Zane Smith, Mike Schmidt, who finished 3rd in the UL in home runs with 44 in 1989, grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Twins went on to win.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Schmidt told the Minnesota News.
