The Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs, 11-4, at Wrigley Field. The Braves got a fine performance from first baseman Howard Johnson, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Randy Tomlin got the win, improving to 6-2. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 12 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. At 29-23, the Braves find themselves in second place in the Federal League East Division.

Darryl Strawberry came through for the Braves in the top of the first inning. With Atlanta leading 1-0, the designated hitter had a 3-run home run.
