|
Baltimore right-hander Mark Portugal made an effective start against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, leading his team to a 6-3 win. The win was Steve Shirley's in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Brian Barnes took the loss for Los Angeles. Baltimore goes to 36-18. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.
With the clubs tied 3-3 in the top of the tenth and runners on 2nd and 3rd, first baseman Kent Hrbek, who finished 4th in the UL in slugging percentage with .527 in 1986, hit a sacrifice fly.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Portugal told the Baltimore Chronicle.
