Braves Turn Back New York, 8-6

With designated hitter Darryl Strawberry leading the charge, the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Yankees, 8-6, at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. Strawberry, who led the FL in slugging percentage with .652 in 1984, went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Melido Perez earned the win for Atlanta. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 5-5. New York, at 25-34, has lost 4 straight.
Strawberry came through with some timely hitting for Atlanta. With the score 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth and two down, Strawberry hit a 0-1 knuckleball for a 2-run home run. His 17th home run of the season made it 7-2, Atlanta.
