Dodgers Fall Short, 4-3, at San Diego
|
The San Diego Padres topped the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-3, in United League action at Jack Murphy Stadium. The player of the game was San Diego first baseman Troy Neel. Hector Wagner, the winner, improved to 3-6. He held the Dodgers to 3 earned runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 4. The 5th-place Dodgers have lost 6 consecutive games.
Neel provided the big break for the Padres in the bottom of the fifth inning. With a runner on 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single, helping San Diego to get the win.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Neel told the San Diego Observer. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
