Victory Pushes Cardinals Record to 36-25
|
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a good performance by Atlanta first baseman Howard Johnson to knock off Atlanta, 5-4, at Busch Stadium. Johnson was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Steve Chitren notched his 15th save in 15 chances. The Cardinals bumped their record to 36-25 with this latest triumph.
Had Mickey Hatcher not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Hatcher hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cardinals.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Hatcher told the St. Louis Citizen.
