Athletics Win, Gruber 3-5
The Oakland Athletics grabbed a 8-4 win over the Washington Senators at RFK Stadium. Oakland third baseman Kelly Gruber went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 to earn player of the game honors. Kevin Gross, credited with the win, is now 4-4. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits in 8.2 innings. Bill Caudill notched his 16th save in 19 chances.

Jose Canseco's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant, coming with a runner on 2nd and the game tied, 4-4. The Oakland right fielder hit a run-scoring double off Bill Wegman to put the Athletics up.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Canseco told reporters after the game.
