Braves Need Extras to Top Twins
The Atlanta Braves topped the Minnesota Twins by the score of 3-2, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell belted 3 home runs for the Braves. The win was Mark Wohlers's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Trevor Hoffman took the loss for Minnesota. Roberto Hernandez recorded his 1st save for Atlanta.

A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the top of the fifth inning. That's when right fielder Bernard Gilkey, the 8th overall pick in the 1989 draft, drew a walk. The Braves went on to win.
