Twins Need Extras to Top Red Sox
|
The Twins faced a stiff challenge from Boston pitcher Roger Clemens, but persevered to claim a win at Fenway Park. The final score was 4-1. Clemens went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The 5th-place Twins improved to 25-41.
Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Koji Akiyama's at-bat in the top of the 11th was crucial. With one out, the Minnesota center fielder hit a 2-run home run, to give his team a 3-1 lead.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Boston manager Kevin Patterson.
