Reds Stumble, Lose to Cardinals
Cincinnati designated hitter David Segui had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 9-4, to St. Louis at Busch Stadium. Segui was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Dave Fleming was the winner. Over 8 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. St. Louis now sits at 39-26, while Cincinnati falls to 34-31.

The Cardinals got a big boost from left fielder Stan Javier who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the fourth inning off Reds hurler Mike Mussina. It was his 22nd RBI of the season and put St. Louis on top, 5-4.

"Winning is contagious," said Javier. "We're looking forward to the next game."
