Red Sox Prove Rude Guests, Win 8-6 at Pittsburgh
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a superb performance from first baseman Andy Van Slyke, but the Boston Red Sox still won the game, 8-6. Van Slyke was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Roger Clemens got the win, improving to 9-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. The Red Sox saw their record improve to 41-30.
Contributing to the Boston win was Rafael Palmeiro. In the top of the fifth, the two-time All-Star had a 2-run home run. That made the score 6-2, the Red Sox in front.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Palmeiro.
