Mets Win at San Diego, 7-2
|
New York turned a good effort from starter Paul Abbott into a win over the San Diego Padres at Jack Murphy Stadium. The final score was 7-2. Abbott got the win, improving to 6-3. He allowed 5 hits and walked 5 over 6 innings. Abbott allowed 2 earned runs. The Mets bumped their record to 41-34 with this latest triumph.
One significant plate appearance for New York came with two out in the top of the sixth inning. Mets third baseman Dave Magadan hit a solo home run, which helped New York go on to win.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
