Sandberg gets 4 RBI, Athletics Move to 6-3
The Oakland Athletics stopped the Washington Senators, 11-0, behind an impressive performance from Ryne Sandberg. The fan favorite made life miserable for Washington pitching. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Zane Smith, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Washington to no earned runs on 6 hits over 8.2 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Oakland goes to 6-3 with the win.

Sandberg came through with some timely hitting for Oakland. With the score 3-0 in the top of the second and one down, Sandberg hit a first pitch fastball for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season made it 6-0, Oakland.

Sandberg said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
