Giants Trip Athletics in Extras
|
Fans who congregated at Candlestick Park were treated to extra-inning drama.
Oakland pitcher Jaime Navarro gave the Giants all they could handle, but in the end, San Francisco left Candlestick Park with a 5-4 win. Navarro allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 8 innings. The win puts the Giants at 47-46, while the Athletics drop to 48-44.
With two out in the bottom of the 11th, Billy Ripken stroked a go-ahead run-scoring single. It was his 44th hit of the season and put San Francisco in front, 5-4.
"This game will make a man of you," said Alen Maglajac, the San Francisco skipper, "if it doesn't kill you first."
