Athletics Prevail, 4-3, Over San Francisco
|
Fans who came to Candlestick Park watched the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants fight to the finish.
The Athletics had to overcome a fine performance from San Francisco pitcher Floyd Youmans to grab a 4-3 win at Candlestick Park. Youmans allowed 4 earned runs over 9 innings. Jaime Navarro, the winner, improved to 9-7. He held the Giants to 3 earned runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 1.
Benito Santiago had a productive trip to the plate with two out in the top of the fourth inning. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run, helping Oakland to the win.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Santiago told the Oakland Chronicle. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
The Athletics bumped their record to 57-55 with this latest triumph.
