The first-place Baltimore Orioles took on the San Diego Padres at Memorial Stadium.
The Baltimore Orioles picked up a win at Memorial Stadium, knocking off the San Diego Padres, 3-2. Starting pitcher Ben McDonald played a key role in the triumph. Roger McDowell notched his 29th save in 29 chances.
Baltimore first baseman Kent Hrbek contributed to the cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, Hrbek was 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said San Diego manager Chris Levin, "let me know."
The first-place Orioles, at 72-46, now lead their division by 9½ games.
