The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-3, at Shea Stadium. The Mets got a fine performance from first baseman Tino Martinez, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Their 69-64 record puts the Mets third in the United League East Division.

Martinez had an important at-bat with a runner on 1st in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. The Mets went on to win.
