Victory Pushes Athletics Record to 10-9
The Oakland Athletics knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-2, at Oakland Coliseum. Kelly Gruber, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Oakland won. The third baseman went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The losing streak has reached 8 games for the Blue Jays. Manager Jose Mata was visibly upset after the game, hurling a string of profanities en route to the clubhouse.

Gruber came through with some timely hitting for Oakland. With the score 0-0 in the bottom of the first and no one down, Gruber hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season made it 2-0, Oakland.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Gruber told the Oakland Chronicle.
