Victory Pushes Pilots Record to 89-61
|
Seattle right-hander Wally Whitehurst pitched his team to victory over the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. The final score was 7-4. Whitehurst, the winner, moves to 15-11. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 1 walk. Guy Hoffman notched his 32nd save in 38 chances.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Vinny Castilla to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Pilots on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Castilla told the Seattle Citizen.
Seattle improves to 89-61 with the win. They lead their division by 10½ games.
