The Oakland Athletics went down to defeat to Dwight Gooden and his Baltimore teammates. The final score was 5-2 in favor of the Orioles. Gooden picked up the win for Baltimore, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 17-9. Roger McDowell got the save, his 35th in 35 chances.
Baltimore grabbed control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Leo Gomez delivered a 3-run home run, to make it 5-2 in favor of the Orioles.
"We'd like to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," said Gooden.
