Senators Win at New York, 10-6
|
The game between Washington and New York is in the books, despite a little rain.
The Washington Senators beat the New York Mets, 10-6, at Shea Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Brian R. Hunter, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Frank Pastore converted his 6th save in 11 tries.
One of the biggest contributors for Washington was first baseman Al L. Martin. In the top of the second, with runners on 1st and 3rd, Martin got a 3-1 fastball and hit a 3-run home run. That put the Senators on top, 6-2.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Hunter told the Washington News.
Washington goes to 61-94, New York to 79-77.
