Streaking Athletics Win Another One
|
The Oakland Athletics got a strong performance from pitcher Mike Parrott, who stymied the Los Angeles offense en route to a 4-2 win at Oakland Coliseum. Parrott, now 9-10, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. Bill Caudill got the save, his 48th in 54 chances.
Kelly Gruber had a big solo home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Oakland leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Ed Hodge and stroked the home run to right-center. It was his 25th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 3-1.
"We put together a nice win," Parrott said.
The third-place Athletics have won 6 consecutive games.
