The Oakland Athletics scored a 4-3 win versus the New York Mets at Oakland Coliseum. Oakland pitcher Mike Parrott nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Oakland reliever Joe Sambito picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Dave Beard was collared with the loss. Oakland has now won 5 straight.
One significant plate appearance for Oakland came with two out in the bottom of the 12th inning. Athletics designated hitter Gary Matthews hit a walk-off run-scoring single, which helped Oakland go on to win.
"It feels good to get this one," Parrott told the Oakland Chronicle.
