DeLeon Too Tough, Blanks Detroit
DeLeon Too Tough, Blanks Detroit
Sunday, August 30th, 1992
The Detroit Tigers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Washington Senators. The Tigers were overpowered by Washington starter Jose DeLeon, who hurled his club to victory, 3-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Julio Izquierdo said.

Over 9 innings, DeLeon blanked Detroit on 3 hits with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," DeLeon said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This year DeLeon has a 8-12 record and a 5.10 ERA.
