Smoltz at His Best, Whips Red Sox
Monday, September 21st, 1992
Today was John Smoltz's turn in the rotation for the Orlando Sun Rays and he made the most of it, shutting out the Boston Red Sox on 2 hits.
The 25-year-old right-hander led the Sun Rays to an easy 10-0 victory, allowing 3 walks and tallying 8 strikeouts.
"I hope we miss him next time," Boston manager Kevin Patterson said. "Smoltz certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
For the season Smoltz has logged 15 wins and 12 losses and struck out 256 batters in 238 innings while compiling a 3.18 ERA.
